Susan Bayh Undergoes Surgery For Malignant Brain Tumor

INDIANAPOLIS  — Former Indiana first lady Susan Bayh had surgery Tuesday to remove a malignant brain tumor.

The family said that the wife of Evan Bayh, a Democratic former Senator and Indiana Governor, had a malignant glioblastoma removed.

That is the same deadly cancer former Democratic Sen. Ted Kennedy battled and GOP Sen. John McCain is currently fighting.

Evan Bayh made the following Facebook post today:

This morning, my wife, Susan, underwent surgery to remove a brain tumor. Regrettably, this tumor was a malignant glioblastoma, the cancer that Ted Kennedy and Beau Biden fought and that John McCain is currently battling. After a period of recuperation from surgery, Susan will begin chemotherapy and radiation therapy. She will fight this disease with the same courage, grace, and optimism that have always characterized her. We ask for your prayers for Susan as she fights this fight. #PrayforSusanBayh

Susan Bayh previously underwent brain surgery in 2015 to remove a benign tumor.

At the time, Evan Bayh said she had headaches so severe that she basically stayed in bed for two or three days before the tumor was found during a scan.

The Bayhs have twin 22-year-old sons, Beau and Nick, who were born in 1995 while their father was governor.
