Terre Haute, In. – Indiana American Water has announced a $19 million project to build an advanced drinking water treatment system in Terre Haute, specifically designed to remove PFAS, often called “forever chemicals,” from the local water supply. Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun described the initiative as a major step forward for public health and community growth. Groundbreaking for the new facility, which will be built next to the city’s existing water plant, is scheduled for this summer, with construction expected to be completed by mid-2028. This is the company’s second such project in the state, utilizing granular activated carbon technology similar to the system that recently began operating in Charlestown. A significant portion of the funding—approximately $14 million—is being provided through the Indiana State Revolving Fund.
