BRAZIL — The company that is relocating a portion of Brazil’s water main has completed most of their work, it was reported at the Board of Public Works and Safety meeting Wednesday.

The first part of the project is to move the water line because the state is replacing a bridge on U.S. 40 east of Brazil. Mayor Brian Wyndham explained the project after the meeting.

A 36 inch hole had to be bored through the rock for the first part of the water main relocation project.

Mayor Brian Wyndham said in the future the city needs to replace a total of five miles of water line from the well field to the processing plant. The line is 60-70 years old. That will cost as much as eight million dollars. The city is seeking grants and other means of funding.

The mayor said it is all about being proactive to protect the city’s water supply.

In other business on Wednesday:

  • City Attorney Traci Orman opened the one bid received on repaving city streets using Community Crossings Grant money. The bid will be reviewed. Streets to be repaved include St. Andrews Drive, Fairway Drive and Water Street.
