More Changes And Restrictions Coming To Lyford “Y”

PARKE COUNTY, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) says that the Lyford “Y” intersection project on U.S. 41 and State Road 163 will switch phases next week. The contractor will close the north side of the intersection around 9 a.m. on Monday, August 20, weather permitting. There will be no through traffic on U.S. 41 north of this intersection to or from Rockville.

Traffic will be in this configuration until Saturday, August 25, when the contractor is planning the full intersection closure.  The intersection will reopen Monday, August 27 late in the day.  Once reopened traffic will still be maintained with the temporary traffic signals but in the new “T” configuration. All turning movements will be allowed once re-opened, and there will be no detours.

The official detour follows U.S. 36 to State Road 63 and back to U.S. 41.

The purpose of this project is to enhance safety at the intersection.  As part of the project, INDOT will implement geometric and traffic control modifications at this location.  The existing, triangular 3-legged type intersection will be reconstructed to a T-intersection with an all-way stop condition.  A short left turn lane will be included on the northbound approach.

White Construction Co. was awarded this contract for $1.49 million.  This project also includes a small structure replacement on U.S. 36, 1.72 miles west of U.S. 41. This work will occur next year.

The intersection project is scheduled to be completed at the end of September of this year.

INDOT reminds motorists to follow the posted work zone speed limit, use caution and consider worker safety when traveling through a construction zone.
