The Bowling Green Volunteer Fire Department is officially making a play for major federal funding to replace its aging headquarters. Fire officials confirmed today they are submitting an application for a seven-hundred and fifty thousand dollar grant through the federal government’s community development program. The current station, built over a half-century ago, no longer safely accommodates modern, larger fire apparatus and lacks adequate training space for personnel. If approved, the funding will build a state-of-the-art facility to boost safety and cut emergency response times. Local matching funds are already secured, with a final decision on the grant expected this fall.
