Vermillion County, In. – Oakley, an English Labrador, has officially joined the Vermillion County Sheriff’s Office as a dedicated school therapy dog. In a move to bolster mental health and wellness within the district, Sheriff Mike Holtkamp introduced the pup this month to provide emotional support and compassion to local students and families. Trained by Sheriff Holtkamp and certified through intensive local programs, Oakley brings specialized skills to her role, including Canine Good Citizen certifications. She will act as a calming presence during crises and daily student interactions. Her role in fostering emotional wellness will continue to grow with further specialized training planned for this spring and summer.
