
Terre Haute, In. – Gary Ray Crowell, a 66-year-old inmate, was pronounced dead Friday evening after being found unresponsive at the United States Penitentiary (USP) in Terre Haute. According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, staff discovered Crowell at approximately 9:05 p.m. and immediately initiated life-saving measures. He was subsequently transported by emergency medical services to a local hospital, where he was declared deceased by medical personnel. Crowell was serving a life sentence for kidnapping. Consistent with standard procedure for deaths occurring within federal custody, the Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigate the circumstances.
