Terre Haute, In. – The Vigo County School Corporation has received a grant from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management for nearly $4 million to help cover the cost 7 new electric school buses this fall and 7 more in 2026. This grant will offset the cost of buying electric buses instead of diesel which ends up at about the same cost to the county. Deputy school superintendent John Newport says it will cost $10 to $15 a day to run an electric bus compared to $75 to $100 a day to run a diesel bus. They also expect to save on maintenance.
