Clay County, In. – Wednesday afternoon an Indiana State Trooper responded to suspicious vehicle report near Cory, Indiana. The vehicle had left by the time the trooper arrived. A short time later the vehicle was spotted on County Road 300 South. The trooper observed the vehicle cross the center line and stop. He attempted a traffic stop but the driver disregarded the emergency lights and took off. The Clay County Sheriff Department deployed stop sticks at County Road 300 and State Road 59 which flattened the suspects tires but the suspect continued to flee. The trooper then performed a precision immobilization technique maneuver which caused the suspects car to hit the troopers car before coming to a stop in a corn field. The suspect wouldn’t come out of the vehicle and began to take his clothes off. After an hour long stand off the officers were able to get the suspect out of the car. He was identified as 35-year-old Aaron Krout of Brazil. He was transported to the hospital in Terre Haute due to indicators that he was under the influence of a controlled substance. While at the hospital Krout suffered a medical episode and died. An autopsy is scheduled for today to determine the cause of death.
