
Terre Haute, In. – Tuesday the Terre Haute Police Department released details of the pursuit, standoff and suicide. Just after 5pm on the 16th Terre Haute Police officers attempted to stop a car for multiple traffic violations. When the driver stopped he the driver and a female passenger were asked to get out of the car. The female passenger complied. The driver was identified as 42-year-old Michael L. Dowell of Terre Haute who was on federal probation. He would not get out of the car. He then took with police pursuit. The chase traveled through the eastern part of the city and ended when Dowell pulled into a parking lot at 13th and Margaret. Dowell would not come out of the vehicle and held a hand gun to his head and threatened to shoot officers if they came near him. After several hours of negotiations Dowell shot himself inside the vehicle. Dowell was on federal probation for possession of a firearm by a violent Felon and possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to distribute. Officers and detectives recovered additional evidence, including a firearm, suspected Methamphetamine, and approximately 350 grams of suspected Marijuana.
