From Terre Haute Police Department

TERRE HAUTE – On July 4, 2023 at approximately 10:37p.m. THPD Uniformed Officers along with the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department and the Terre Haute Fire Department responded to the intersection of S. 3rd St and Oak St for the report a motor vehicle accident where two pedestrians were struck by a motor vehicle.

Upon arrival, two victims were located and treated on scene by the Terre Haute Fire Department prior to being transported to Union Hospital. One victim was treated and later released and the second remains at Union Hospital for further treatment. Due to the seriousness of the Injuries the Vigo County Fatal Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.

As result of the preliminary investigation, Charles Eugene Padgett, 50, of Terre Haute was placed under arrest for Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Resulting in Serious Bodily injury or death.

This is an open and ongoing investigation and no further information will be released at this time.
