Clay County, In. – Islamic Society of Milwaukee President Salah Salem Sarsour is currently held at the Clay County Jail in Indiana following his arrest by ICE on March 30, 2026. He was transferred to the facility because it serves as a primary regional detention hub for federal immigration authorities. The Department of Homeland Security alleges Sarsour is a “national security risk” for failing to disclose a 1990s conviction in Israel on his green card application decades ago. His legal team and Milwaukee city leaders have condemned the move as a politically motivated overreach, noting he has been a lawful resident for over 30 years. Sarsour remains in custody pending an immigration hearing in Chicago on April 13.
