Vigo County, In. – Vigo County Commissioner Chris Switzer is urging the public to contact state Legislators in opposition to House Bill 1001, a measure designed to increase the state’s housing supply by curbing local zoning regulations. Switzer and other local officials argue the bill would erode “local control,” making it harder for communities to manage their own growth.  Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun is also speaking out, cautioning lawmakers that stripping municipalities of their ability to regulate zoning and building fees ignores the actual drivers of housing costs, such as infrastructure. Sakbun noted that infrastructure remains the top concern for builders and urged the state to focus on those costs rather than bypassing local mandates.
