The Valley Digs Out & Braces For Cold Temps

Wabash Valley – The Wabash Valley is digging out from a major Winter Storm that moved through Saturday and Sunday dropping 8 to 10 inches of snow in the Terre Haute area with up to 12 inches reported in southern portions of the valley. The Vigo County Commissioners and Emergency Management Agency issued a travel advisory Saturday afternoon. The Commissioners designated a Local Disaster Emergency Saturday. Sunday the Commissioners issued a Travel Warning which is in effect though Tuesday. A travel warning means that only emergency and essential traffic should be on the roads. Governor Braun declared a State of Emergency for Indiana and the President approved an Emergency Declaration on Saturday. the Indiana National Guard were activated to help stranded motorists and respond to dangerous road conditions. Schools & universities are closed today. Many business are also closed. Now that the snow has ended an Extreme Cold Warning has been issued by The National Weather Service for the region, as wind chills were expected to drop as low as -20°F to -25°F following the snow.
