Man Convicted Of Kidnapping Elizabeth Smart Attacked & Injured In Terre Haute Fed Prison

Terre Haute, In. – Bryan David Mitchell, 72, the Utah Man convicted and sentenced to a life sentence for kidnapping Elizabeth Smart IN 2003 was the target of at least two attacks at the Terre Haute Federal Prison. The first attack was last May when another inmate lured him in to a common area in the prison and brutally assaulted him. After the most recent attack Mitchell refused to return to return to his unit. Since that attack Federal Prison officials have transferred Mitchell to another prison in another part of the country. Mitchell kidnapped Elizabeth Smart at age 14 and held her captive in a remote encampment for nine months before she was rescued in 2003. Smart was was repeatedly sexually assaulted, starved, and threatened with death if she tried to escape.
