Clinton, In. – On Monday we reported that the Indiana State Police had been called in, by the Vermillion County Sheriff, to investigate a missing person in Clinton. The State Police detectives uncovered enough evidence to arrest 20-year-old Nicholas Yates for the murder of the missing person. We now know that the missing person was Yates mother Cheryl Yates. According to the Indiana State Police Yates admitted to striking his mother in the throat during an argument. She fell and hit her head on a bed frame and died. Yates then put her body into a wooden box and dragged it outside where he spent the day Saturday burning her remains in a burn pit. He then reported his mother missing to the Vermillion County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators recovered bones from the pit and they are being analyzed. They say it could take weeks for a positive identification.
