
Indianapolis, In. – Indiana State University, The Vigo County and Southwest Parke school will benefit from Indiana Commission for Higher Education grants as part of a teacher residency program. It was announced earlier this week that grant renewals for 30 school corporations and eight additional school corporation was taking place. $1.8 million was awarded to place and train 120 teachers in the state this year. According to a news release the Vigo County School Corp., working with Indiana State University, will receive $225,000 and Southwest Parke Community Schools, also working with Indiana State, will receive $30,000. The teacher residency is modeled after medical residency and apprenticeship programs, teacher residency programs are year-long, paid teaching experiences for student educators who plan on teaching kindergarten through 12th grade.
