
Terre Haute, In. – Charles Ray has been appointed as Magistrate for Vigo Superior Court Division 1. Ray will begin his new job on July 1st. Rays appointment came about due to the passage of House Bill 1144 in May which reduced or added a number of judicial posts based on county judges’ work loads. In Vigo county’s case it allowed the addition of a magistrate of general jurisdiction. Ray will operate out of the Community Corrections building, along with two court reporters. Judges are paid by the state but the county must pay his staff and other expenses of his office. The cost of the two reporters salaries will be nearly $102, 000. Their benefits packages, office furniture, supplies and computer systems will cost the county another $269,000.
