INDIANAPOLIS — The 2025 legislative session in Indiana has wrapped up with some House members saying they got key legislative priorities passed.
Indiana lawmakers got passage of the state’s next two-year budget as well as tax relief and reform for Hoosiers.
In the Indiana House Republicans’ weekly podcast, State Rep. Tony Isa, R-Angola, said by passing Senate Enrolled Act 1, residents will see much-needed property tax relief.
“Hoosier families have been struggling with rising property taxes and relief is coming,” he said. “This legislation brings real savings to nearly every Hoosier in the state.”
The next two-year budget was also signed into law. House Republicans said the budget focuses on state income tax each of the next two years, which they believe will save taxpayers over $200 million per year. The passage of major tax relief and reform could save Hoosiers $1.3 billion in the next two years alone.
On top of the major property tax relief, State Rep. Brad Barrett, of Richmond, said House Enrolled Acts 1003 and 1004 are both aimed at lowering health care costs for Hoosiers.
“This is about putting Hoosier patients first by making sure they are informed, protected and treated fairly. By increasing transparency, preventing surprise billing and holding providers accountable, we are working to reduce health care costs and to empower patients,” Barrett said.
Rep. Dave Hall, R-Norman, co-author on House Enrolled Act 1007, said they wanted the state to be in a position where they can meet the needs of today’s energy economy while also reducing costs.
“This new law is a smart step forward as we work to meet growing energy needs without putting the cost on everyday Hoosiers,” said Hall. “Supporting innovation like this means keeping the lights on while still protecting ratepayers.”
The following House Republican priority bills also advanced through the House and Senate:
House Enrolled Act 1002 reduces regulations on K-12 schools to give local communities more control over education decisions.
House Enrolled Act 1005 improves access to housing by expanding the residential housing infrastructure assistance program.
House Enrolled Act 1006 strengthens public safety by creating a review board to investigate prosecutors who refuse to enforce laws.
House Enrolled Act 1008 would study whether Indiana should adjust its boundaries to welcome in 33 Illinois counties.
