West Terre Haute, In. – Duke Energy is reaching out a helping hand to low income families in the West Terre Haute area. The Duke Energy Assistance Programs goal is to find areas that are low-income and high energy usage and provides a number of measures to help energy costs. Many families are eligible for level 1 assistance which includes 16 measures that can help save energy coasts. Duke representatives will survey the home to decide which of the 16 measures apply. Duke will provide things like door sweeps, weather strip kits on doors, a year supply of furnace filters and more. Families that qualify for level 2 assistance will get a crew provided by Duke to install attic insulation, air sealing, duct sealing, or smart thermostats and other thing the home may need to help save energy dollars. West Vigo Community Center president Dave Elkins is working with Duke by providing names and will actually go the homes with the Duke representatives feeling that a local familiar face will help stop any skepticism residents may have.
