After every 50 new signatures, the petition is sent to City Council members and Mayor Sakbun. About 40 residents met Monday with Councilman Anthony Dinkel. The area where the development would be built in in his district. Dinkel urged them to attend the public meetings and make their voices heard. The mayors office issued a statement concerning this issue that says the city of Terre Haute does not own this property. Therefore, we are unable to force any building plan changes on the development unless they violate the building codes set forth by the city code and the state of Indiana. The mayors statement went on to say “This parcel is currently zoned for a neighborhood. Theoretically, a developer could build modular homes tomorrow. We must work with the cards we have been dealt and do our best to create the best winning hand.”
