
Terre Haute, In. – The Terre Haute Police Dept. Has released the name of the man that allegedly shot and killed a man at the Candlewood Suite Hotel in Downtown Terre Haute Monday night. The suspect is Wilson Chavez an out of town laborer with Champion Contractors. The victim was Jaime Munoz also a part of the group of out of town laborers staying at the Hotel. Police were called to the hotel around 9 pm Monday. When they arrived bystanders told them the shooting happened on the 5th floor. Officers found Munoz body in room 523 with multiple gunshot wounds. Police, with the help of an interpreter, interviewed Chavez. He reportedly agreed to a DNA swab and a gunshot residue test.
During the interview, Chavez told police he didn’t have any issues with Munoz, but that Munoz and others on the crew were jealous of his work. He claimed he was in the shower when he heard gunshots, and when he came out, he saw Munoz on the floor with gunshot wounds. According to police, the evidence contradicted Chavez’s version of events. Blood stains indicated that Munoz had been pulled away from the door, where investigators believe he was shot. A holster was also found in the room. Chavez in in the Vigo County Jail and will make first appearance in court on Friday.
