Memorial Day Events In The Valley

Wabash Valley, Indiana – The sound of Taps was heard from many Memorial Day events around the Wabash Valley on Monday.  The events were held to remember the fallen service men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.  American Legion Post 401 held once such event at Terre Haute’s Highland Lawn Cemetery Monday morning.  The Terre Haute Police Dept. held the Murph Challenge at Memorial Stadium on Monday.  Residents were invited to participate in a one-mile run, do 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups and 300 air squats. The event concluded with another one-mile run.  The Murph Challenge is named in memory of fallen Medal of Honor recipient Navy SEAL Lt. Michael Murphy who served in Afghanistan in 2005. Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun was among the community members who took part in the event on Monday.
