
CLAY COUNTY, Ind – Clay County Chief Deputy Josh Clark tells us that around 3:00 this afternoon (12/31/20) a female called 911 regarding a domestic issue at 8781 North County Road 500 W.
The woman,, with child at the home, said that the male was intoxicated and when he arrived home he tried to run her over with a vehicle. He then started destroying the house and other vehicles so she couldn’t leave. He also threatened her with physical violence.
The woman and the child were able to flee the home and go to the neighbors.
A search warrant was obtained for 33 year old Garret Newhouse. Police say that he had barricaded himself in the home. Several attempts were made to get Newhouse out of the residence but he would no cooperate.
Deputies and Indiana State Police entered the home to try and locate Newhouse and make an arrest.
An initial clearing of the house was unsuccessful in locating him.
A more thorough search led officers into a messy cluttered attic. Officers could see Newhouse in the attic hiding in the insulation.
A fake pistol was also located in the attic however no other firearm was found.
Several minutes went by with verbal commands that were given to Newhouse who refused to cooperate and come out.
A canine was utilized to go into the attic and help with the apprehension.
The k9 handler and Deputy Clark escorted Newhouse out of the attic to waiting officers where he was probably restrained without further incident.
Newhouse was arrested on violation of protection order, felony intimidation, and resisting law enforcement.
