TERRE HAUTE, Ind –  The man at the center of a standoff with police is dead.

Police and the special response team were called to the KFC near Lafayette and FT Harrison roads in northern Terre Haute Monday morning around 10:00 a.m.

A man was initially reported as having a pair of scissors and would not come out of the store.

Around 1:00 p.m. police said they found the man inside unresponsive.

He was taken to an area hospital where he died from self-inflicted injuries.

Police are continuing to investigate and have not released the identity of the individual.
