Grants Handed Out To Help Enforce School Bus Safety

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. – The Vigo County Sheriff’s Department is one of 39 police agencies that have received part of $380,000 to help enforce safety laws at school bus stops.

Vigo County is the recipient of nearly $9,000 that will go to overtime hours for officers.

The comes from the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.

A new law that took effect on July 1 calls for stiffer penalties for drivers who pass school buses that have the stop arm extended and lights flashing.

Three children in Indiana died in 2018 while crossing the road to board a school bus.
