CLAY COUNTY, Ind – Last Saturday (11-17-18) November 17th around 6:32 p.m. deputies were called to make welfare check on 32 year old David L Hill by family members. Hill’s family indicated that he had been acting erratic all day as he was walking along SR 340 confronting motorists. It was also mentioned that Hill had stopped taking medication was drinking heavily, which was believed to be causing erratic behavior.
When deputies arrived at the residence at 5131 West State Road 340 they were met by Hill who police say was in an agitated state. During a conversation with the deputies Hill was yelling and rambling on about various topics while also making statements that he was going to harm several people who did not have the same views as he did.
During the course of events deputies were informed of an active warrant out of Clay County Courts for intimidation. That is when deputies attempted to detain Hill, but he was able to pull away from the deputy while grabbing him around the head. Another deputy used a Taser but that was ineffective as Hill was able to break free again and lunged at another deputy striking him several times in the face and nose. The struggle with the three deputies continued for several minutes.
Eventually Hill was overpowered, detained and arrested.
Two of the three deputies were taken to St. Vincent Clay Hospital where they were treated for injuries to their head, face and arms.
On Tuesday, Hill was formally charged by the Clay County Prosecutor’s Office with two felony (level 5) charges of battery resulting in injury to a public safety officer, (level 5) disarming a law enforcement officer, (level 6) battery against a public safety official and an A misdemeanor charge of resisting law enforcement in Clay Circuit Court.
A $25,000 cash bond (with no 10 percent allowed) has been set.
