Conservation Officers Rescue Man From Putnam County Flood Waters

Putnam County, Ind. – Two Indiana Conservation Officers rescued 36-year-old Damon Fine, of Quincy, from Mill Creek floodwaters in Putnam County Thursday morning. Fine was found clinging to a tree branch in the frigid flood waters after his car had been washed away.

Fine called 911 call around 6:30 a.m. after crawling through his sunroof onto the roof of his car. An Owen County Deputy arrived just in time to see the car begin to move and then be swept downstream and disappear under the water. Fine was able to grab onto a tree branch further downstream.

Conservation Officers were able to see the flashlight from Fine’s cell phone that he was using to signal the officers.

By the time Fine was pulled from the water he had begun to succumb to the effects of hypothermia.

He was taken to the Putnam County Hospital for treatment.
