VCSB approves 2018 budget, new school lunch software

The Vigo County School Board met least night in the administrative building of the Vigo County School Corporation on Wabash Avenue to discuss the budget for 2018. The budget was approved, and totals approximately $150,720,000, with $114,000,000 allocated for the general fund, about $9,000,000 going towards debt service, nearly $7,500,000 for transportation costs, nearly $18,000,000 for capital improvement projects, and about $2,000,000 for bus replacement with the remainder flowing back into the capital improvement’s fund. The group also talked about the importance of taking their time with the decision of a possible consolidation of Terre Haute North, South, and West Vigo High School’s – due to the potential cost of the project. The board also voted to approve a new school lunch system, which will allow parents to monitor the balance of their child’s lunch account online, as well as what the child is consuming at lunch. The Food Service Point of Sale Software will be made available through Heartland School Solutions.
