Indianapolis, In. – Indiana State Police are investigating after a man was found dead along Interstate 70 on Indianapolis’s east side early Thursday morning. Investigators believe the unidentified man was electrocuted while attempting to steal copper wire from high-voltage utility poles near the highway. Troopers discovered the body, along with tools used for cutting wire, after utility workers reported a localized power outage in the area. Authorities are warning the public about the extreme, life-threatening dangers of tampering with electrical infrastructure, noting that copper theft carries a fatal risk. The Marion County Coroner’s Office is currently working to confirm the man’s identity and official cause of death.
