Terre Haute, In. – A new specialized court program is coming to Vigo County to help low-level offenders break the cycle of addiction and mental illness. The newly announced Vigo County Misdemeanor Behavioral Health Court will offer a twelve-month program combining strict court check-ins, drug screenings, and mandatory counseling through the Hamilton Center. Judge Matthew Sheehan and Prosecutor Terry Modesitt say the goal is early intervention and increased accountability. Those who successfully finish the program will have their misdemeanor charges completely dismissed. The new court is officially scheduled to begin operations this August.
