Terre Haute, Ind. — The Vigo County School Board approved an amended contract with Gibraltar Design on June 1st. The move comes just ahead of the school consolidation oversight board’s June 8th executive session. Gibraltar is drafting the controversial $222 million “Option 6” plan. The proposal replaces Terre Haute North and South high schools with one mega-high school and closes four elementary schools. Before the approval, board officials toured new prototype classrooms designed by the firm. The oversight board will use its private June 8 session to review legal and funding strategies. They hope to avoid property tax hikes before their July deadline. However, County Council President Steve Ellis wants the district to exhaust its own $150 million bonding capacity first.
