Terre Haute, In. – A large crowd attended the special meeting of the Vigo County Council held at South High School last evening (10/29/25). The meeting was called to to explore how county government might be able to financially help the school corporation address facility upgrades. It appeared the majority of those in attendance supported the formation of the oversight board. Council Members Steve Ellis, Randy Gentry, Nancy Allsup and Vicki Weger did not attend. Council members Dave Thompson, Brenda Wilson and Brad Anderson were in attendance. Earlier this month the council, by a 4-3 vote, passed an ordinance that says Vigo County can’t hand any money to the school corporation, or fund an oversight board, unless voters approve of such a payout in a referendum. Council President Dave Thompson then said the ordinance was not properly publicized, introduced and passed and he would not sign it.
