TERRE HAUTE — Recently, employees at the Terre Haute Convention Center had begun noticing plants and trees were vanishing from the landscaping surrounding the center. A review of the security footage clearly showed the suspect arriving at the Convention Center multiple times per night as he would loosen or prep the plants for his return later in the morning where he would then steal the shrubbery. Security footage of the suspect was passed onto the THPD Uniform Division and an officer recognized the suspect due to prior police contacts regarding past thefts of landscaping materials from other businesses in the city.

THPD Uniform Officers located the suspect vehicle parked near the convention center during the early morning hours of March 15, 2023 and then soon after located the suspect as he worked as part of a cleaning crew at a nearby business.

THPD Detectives followed up with the suspect and were able to gain a confession and recover several of the stolen plants. The stolen plants were recovered from the suspect’s residence as some were planted around the residence, some were planted in pots inside the residence and unfortunately some had perished.

Jordan L. Schoffstall, 33, of Terre Haute was placed under arrest for Theft and was issued a Summons to Appear into Terre Haute City Court.
