BRAZIL- The Indiana Department of Corrections was contacted to assist with locating the escaped inmate, Christopher Myers, 44, who escaped Sunday morning while working in the Clay County Justice Center kitchen.

“The inmate was located using unmanned aerial vehicle technology owned and operated by the Indiana Department of Corrections, said Clay County Sheriff Brison Swearingen. “The inmate was spotted just blocks away from the Justice Center.
Members of the Sheriff’s Office converged on the area and took the male into custody without incident. The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Indiana Department of Corrections and the Brazil Police Department for their assistance in this matter. The absconded male is back in the Clay County Justice Center and additional charging information will be forwarded to the Clay County Prosecutor’s Office.”

On Sunday, Christopher Myers, 44, escaped from the Clay County Justice Center around 11 a.m. Sunday.

Myers escaped the Clay County Justice Center by breaking a lock and a door while performing kitchen duties, said Clay County Sheriff Brison Swearingen. Myers was a trustee at the jail.

An internal investigation is being conducted to determine what protocols were violated leading to Myers’ escape.

Myers was in jail for failure to appear for a jury trial on Jan. 9. Bail had been set at $7,000.
