Wabash Valley Counties Still High In Unemployment

INDIANA – County by country unemployment rankings have been released by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

According to those numbers counties here in our area account for five of the top ten with the most unemployed Hoosiers.

Vermillion County with an unemployment rate of 5.9% continues to have the highest percentage of unemployed residents out of all the 92 counties in the state.

Sullivan County is ranked 3rd with a rate of 5.2%, Greene County is 5th at 4.9%, followed by Owen County in 6th place also at 4.9% and the Vigo County is 7th at 4.8%.

Parke county is at 17th with a rate of 4.2%

Clay county is at 20th with a rate of 4.1%

Putnam county is at 35th at 3.9%

The county with the lowest unemployment in the state is LaGrange at 2.8%.

The state average is 3.7%
