Police Say Preachers Wife Stole From Church, Used Drugs

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. – A preacher’s wife has admitted to stealing from a local church as well as using heroin.

Police became aware of the crime when they performed a traffic stop and arrested Jason Reed for possession of a controlled substance.

Reed then told officers that he was selling drugs to 42-year-old Heather Riggs who is the wife of Shawn Riggs, the minister of Victory Christian Church in Seelyville.

Police say that Reed forged over 140 checks on 14 occasions worth $75,000 of church money to buy the drugs.

Two signatures were needed on church checks.

Police believe that Heather Riggs signed the name of her husband and youth pastor Jared Smith who died after a heroin overdose in November of 2016.

Reed allegedly sold drugs to Smith.

Riggs met Reed after Smith died.

Riggs also allegedly had two small children she was babysitting with her during one of the deals.
