Man Parks On Top Of Tree After “Huffing”

VERMILLION COUNTY, Ind – Vermillion County Police were called to a single vehicle accident in the 300 block of West Market Street in Newport last night (7/16/19) around 11:00 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found a 2013 White Volkswagen parked on top of an uprooted tree.

Police say that they found several air duster cans inside the vehicle including one in the cup holder of the center console.

The driver, 30-year-old Derrick M. Dougherty of Newport admitted to officers that he had been “huffing” the dusters prior to the accident.

Dougherty failed field sobriety tests and was taken to the Vermillion County Jail where he is being held on a charge of Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated.

His bond is currently set at $9,000.
