Illinois State Trooper Killed When Struck By Semi

PECATONICA, IL – Illinois State Police (ISP) report that the second Trooper this year has been killed in the line-of-duty.

Thursday around 11:30 a.m. ISP District 16 (Pecatonica) Trooper Brooke Jones-Story was inspecting a commercial motor vehicle on west bound United States Route 20, just west of Illinois Route 75 in Stephenson County when she was struck by a semi-tractor-trailer.

Police say that Jones-Story was outside her squad car when she and the truck she was inspecting were struck.

Trooper Jones-Story was a 12-year veteran of the Illinois State Police District 16 in Pecatonica.

Additional information will be released once it becomes available.

So just this year, 14 State Police vehicles have been hit. On January 12th Trooper Christopher Lambert was killed when he was hit while responding to a crash on I-294 in northern Illinois.
