Council Tables Rezoning Request

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – A last night’s Terre Haute City Council meeting, the council decided to put off a rezoning request until at least next month.

The vote was 5-4 on an ordinance to rezone an area along Poplar Street, Fruitridge Avenue and Adams Boulevard.

A developer wants to use that area to build close to eighty condos instead of single family homes.

Many residents in the Beau Monde sub-division next door want, more trees and other plants as well as a sidewalk to add some separation.

An attorney said that there are some easements and other barriers that will make some of those requests hard to accommodate.

Still, the council wants the two sides to try to talk and come up with a compromise, so the rezoning vote was tabled.
